Foto Fest 2004 - “Fluidity”
March 12th through April 11th

For the second consecutive Foto Fest, ASMP Houston created a unique presence with an exhibition of members’ work. This year we moved to Silver Street Studio near downtown Houston to show over a hundred works by about 25% of our number.

The Committee of Nash Baker, Hall Puckett, Matt McKinney, Beryl Striewski and Jim Caldwell want to thank all the participants for their efforts in creating the show, particularly the exciting work of gallery sitting. We all thank Marty and Christie of Silver Street for their continuing flexibility and good cheer throughout this process.

I personally want to thank the Committee for their extra efforts with the behind-the-scenes work of augmenting the Silver Street lighting and managing the hanging, opening and closing events. Thanks to Rocky and Nash for the “Fluidity” name. Particular thanks go out to Nash Baker for the terrific design of the poster and for bleeding (literally) for the cause.

Exhibitors were, in alphabetical order:
Nash Baker, Jim Caldwell, Mike Duhon, Bob Gomel, Mark Green, Michael Hart, Rodolfo Hernandez, Paul Hester, Scott Kohn, Rocky Kneten, Thaine Manske, Matt McKinney, Connie Moberly, Hall Puckett, Joe Robbins, Ron Scott, Beryl Striewski, Bob Werre

The “Fluidity” You Missed

In Paris around the turn of the 20th century, as modern art began to challenge the established salons of the art world, “Salons de Refuse” became a way for artists rejected by the tastemekers of the day to have their work seen by the public.

I had originally planned an issue of the WebLetter for the Fall of 2003 as a teaser for the planned ASMP Houston show, soliciting work on the Foto Fest theme of “Water”. We got some terrific submissions for this article which did not come out, along with the rest of the issue. Most of these were eventually seen on the walls of Silver Street Studio, with some significant exceptions.

David Nance, Janice Rubin & Franklin Viola submitted for the article but didn’t for the exhibition itself. The following is their work for that lost article:
