Editor's Letter by Jim Caldwell

There are two President’s Letters in this issue, one from Beryl, the incoming Prez, and one from Rocky, the outgoing Prez. This seems very appropriate during this time of transition. I hope I can induce Rocky to keep writing for the WebLetter -- his interesting, provocative comments will be missed. I want to urge each of you, as he did in his letter, to get it off your chest! Got a rant? A story? A tech tip? A great vendor? This is the place to share it with your contemporaries.

Congratulations to Beryl and all the new Board members! And thanks to Rocky and all those moving from official to unofficial positions with the Chapter. Thanks for your mighty labors on our behalf! It’s wonderful that the board has so many new faces. We need the fresh perspectives and more people to share the duties.

I still can’t get anybody to take over the WebLetter, but hope springs eternal.... Beryl and other board members want a return to some sort of printed Newsletter but I reminded them of the financial and staffing limitations -- specifically, a paper Newsletter needs advertising to pay for the printing and mailing costs and therefore an ad manager as well as someone to handle distribution and mailing. Anybody volunteering? Just checking....

Another idea floated at the recent Board meeting was a “teaser card” hand-distributed to labs and stores around the area. It would contain portions of articles to entice members and the public to log on the ASMP Houston website to finish reading and viewing them. We might be able to get most or all of the printing on this donated which would save the complexity of advertising in a full-blown printed Newsletter.

Any thoughts? We create this publication for you -- let us know what you want.

-- Jim

P.S. ASMP National and ASMP Houston are celebrating milestone birthdays -- how would you like to celebrate them?
