Welcome to the Summer, 2003 issue of the ASMP Houston WebLetter. And no, there wasn’t a Spring issue. Our Winter issue came out a bit late and I had a busy first quarter, so Spring got lost in the shuffle. A two-person volunteer staff doesn’t give us a lot of depth staff-wise. One of these years we really will have four issues. I promise.

We’re happy to welcome John Smallwood as a new General Member, transferring from Tulsa, Oklahoma, and I’m pleased to present his work as well. He’s a man with a good business sense and some strong opinions, as evidenced at the last couple of meetings. We appreciate his voice and his activism.

This issue we’ll be introducing a new feature to our article mix, a collection of members’ work connected by a single theme. This issue we chose as a subject “Downtown Houston” and although participation was moderate this first time out, the work is strong and varied. Let us know what you think of this idea and by all means, submit images for the next article in the Fall, 2003 issue!

The theme is “WATER”, in honor of and preparation for our show for Foto Fest 2004, to be exhibited at the Silver Street Studio, the new rental studio space near downtown Houston. It’s a beautiful space that the owner Marty has generously made available to ASMP, and since it is closer to its major venues, Foto Fest plans to put our show on their tour list as well as the map and catalogue. So those of you who felt we were isolated up in the Heights last time, fear not! We’re in the thick of things next year.

For more details on the WebLetter article on “Water”, see the notice elsewhere in this issue. Check out Silver Street Studio at www.silverstreetstudio.com.
We’ll post more details of the Foto Fest show in upcoming issues and will be sending e-mails around.
