Witold Skrypczak is a Houston-based travel photographer and writer. His main areas of interest are mountain hiking and backpacking photography. Specific areas include West Texas mountains and deserts, the Colorado Plateau and the Rocky Mountains of Colorado and Canada. His photos cover both his adopted homeland Texas and Poland, the country he came from. Every year, he travels south, often shooting in Mexico's Highlands. This summer, Witold will be shooting in the Switzerland's Alps and Italy's Dolomites. The Dolomities are not very well known, especially in this country (that's the mountains in the Sylvester Stallone's Cliffhanger), yet Witold thinks that they're one of the most spectacular mountain ranges on earth. Look for a selection of new images on his website this fall at www.witoldphotography.com. Before leaving Poland, Witold studied at the University of Wroclaw and came to Texas after receiving his master's degree in geography. While still at school, Witold worked as a journalist for a TV station. In Houston, Witold has spent several years working as a geophysical analyst. However, his early interest in journalism and photography soon resulted in a growing involvement in these areas. His photographs and travel essays have now been published in newspapers, magazines and books, both in the U.S. and Poland, including a long series of articles in The Houston Chronicle's Texas Magazine (most recently, a cover story on Texas ranch gates, one of his favorite subjects), reports in the leading Polish language newspapers Gazeta Wyborcza, and New York's Nowy Dziennik, and several picture books published in the U.S. on Texas and Poland. Witold shoots for several stock agencies in the U.S. and in Germany. |
