His work reflects an ancestry filled with artists and painters, and the childhood influences of Norman Rockwell, and Henri Cartiet-Bersson’s “Decisive Moment.” His photography has been recognized for excellence by The William Randolph Hearst Foundation, the Royal Photographic Society of London, AP, Windows on Houston, and others, and he’s been awarded “National Press Photographer of the Year” by the National Press Photographers Association. He was a member of the Pulitzer Prize winning photography staff at the Orange County Register in southern California, the Arizona Republic, and the Idaho Statesman. Houston-based since 1992, Blackmer specializes in all varieties of location photography. He’s a graduate of numerous photography and digital programs from the Santa Fe Workshops and D-65 Digital Workflow, keeping pace with advancing technologies and the creative avenues they provide. Blackmer serves on the Board of Directors for the Houston Chapter of ASMP, and is an active member of Editorial Photographers and the National Association of Photoshop Professionals. |
